Nigeria coach praises impact of John Obi Mikel against Algeria

Nigeria made it two wins out of two World Cup qualification after a 3-1 success over Algeria.

It was a victory largely masterminded by midfielder John obi Mikel. The Chelsea midfielder may be struggling for opportunities at club level, but he continues to remain as one of the key players for the national team. After having missed out on the 2017 African Cup of Nations, the national team are desperate to achieve qualification to the World Cup 2018 without any hiccups. After a close fought 2-1 win over Zambia in the opening group match, they have managed to beat former African Cup of Nations champions Algeria.

Gernot Rohr recommends to Avoid Money Spending on Players that are on Vacations

Gernot Rohr does not think that the money should be wasted on those players who come to the national camp only to have a bit of a vacation and have nothing to do during a match apart from remaining seated on the bench.

In the view of Rohr, the second and the third choice players should be good enough to put pressure on the starters and the starters must know that they can only remain ahead of their understudies if they shine match after match.

Otherwise if the starters don’t have any challenge for their places, they will never be afraid of a sack and thus, they might drop their guard which might lead to a weak team effort.

Rohr, a consultant for Nigeria, was quoted saying, “I have noticed that the national duty is nothing more than a vacation trip for a few of the players. They are given the money for their services, but, do they even have to provide their services? I don’t think so.” (more…)

Kanu has blamed the Nigerian Football Federation for the current state of football

Former Nigeria’s captain Kanu has blamed the Nigerian Football Federation for the current state of football

NwankwoKanu, who currently works for Unicef and a Chinese television, has stated that the level of football has declined during recent years because of poor management from the Nigerian Football Federation.

He believes that there is too much instability surrounding the coaches and that the team is not playing in the best condition. In fact, this is a problem that affects African football in general, and it is up to the federation to make changes. He thinks that a change will be needed in the football federation if ever Nigeria wants to raise their football standards again.

Kanu has stated that it was already a bad thing to not be present at Equatorial Guinea in 2015 but now missing Gabon 2017 is a massive blow. He has encouraged the Nigerian Football Federation to make changes to their leadership and to ensure that it is football that is put first and not petty politics.

The former Arsenal player also wants to see more stability when it comes to choosing a manager for the national team. He wants the Nigerian federation to choose a local man to guide the team and not focus on getting a foreigner. He believes that only a local person can understand the requirement of African football and that will be able to get the best from their players. (more…)

Mario Balotelli scored a goal but Siniša Mihajlović says that he still needs to improve

On Mario Balotelli’s 2nd debut match as a player of Ac.Milan he scored a goal when his team faced off against Mantova in a friendly game. In 2 matches with Ac.Milan, Balotelli has already scored as many goals as he did for Liverpool in the entire past season.

Even though this goal has given Balotelli a positive start to his return to Ac.Milan, the manager of the Italian club stated that the player who is on a season loan deal still has a few things to do which he needs to fulfill before becoming a consistent starter for the team.

The 46 year old Serbian manager of Ac.Milan, Siniša Mihajlović said that Mario Balotelli still isn’t ready to play for an entire match as he is overweight and will have to work on his fitness.

Ac.Milan’s Siniša Mihajlović said: “He has not played for a while and he still has to improve. He is training well and his physical tests are satisfactory, but he is three kilograms overweight; he is on a diet and when he is ready he will play. ‘I’m not talking about anyone in particular but about everyone. Balotelli? We played against a Serie C side. He is not in good shape and has to improve, just like all the others, otherwise he won’t play’’

Mario Balotelli scored at the 3rd minute of Ac.Milan’s friendly match against Mantova but Siniša Mihajlović said that the Italian player still needs to improve and the Serbian manager is indeed expecting to see Balotelli performing better.

After having completed his return to Ac.Milan, Balotelli was praised by the CEO of Ac.Milan Adriano Galliani as he said that the former Inter Milan player was a changed man who had a different attitude but the problems still continue to arrive as Balotelli has now recently been involved in a problem with Italian officials after he was caught speeding.
